Predentistry Courses

The following courses meet requirements at the UMKC School of Dentistry and most dental schools:

  • ENGL 101 Composition (3 credit hours) or 105 Freshman Honors English (3)
  • ENGL 102 Critical Reading & Writing (3) or 205 Freshman-Sophomore Honors Proseminar (3)
     
  • BIOL 150 Principles of Molecular & Cellular Biology or 151 Honors (4, CHEM 130, 170 or 180 co-requisite)
  • BIOL 152 Principles of Organismal Biology (4, required to take 350)
  • BIOL 240 Human Anatomy AND 241 Lab (3 & 2)
  • BIOL 246 Human Physiology AND 247 Lab (3 & 2), or BIOL 546 Mammalian Physiology (3) AND 647 Lab (2)
  • BIOL 350 Principles of Genetics or 360 Honors (4, required to take 416)
  • BIOL 416 Cell Structure & Function (3)
  • BIOL 600 Introductory Biochemistry (3)
     
  • CHEM 130 General Chemistry I, 170 for Chemical Science Majors, or 190 Honors (5, must be MATH 115 Calculus-eligible)
  • CHEM 135 General Chemistry II, 175 for Chemical Science Majors, or 195 Honors (5)
  • CHEM 330 Organic Chemistry I (3) or 380 Honors (3), and 331 Lab (2)
  • CHEM 335 Organic Chemistry II or 385 Honors (3), and 336 Lab (2)
     
  • PHSX 114 College Physics I (4), 210 for Engineers I (3) and 216 Lab (1), 211 General Physics I (4) and 216 Lab (1), or 213 Honors (5)
  • PHSX 115 College Physics II (4), 212 General Physics II (3) and 236 Lab (1), or 214 Honors (4)

Recommended non-science courses include Art (ART 122 Fundamentals of Sculpting, 131 Ceramics, and/or 132 Metalsmithing & Jewelry Making (3)), Business and Spanish.
